What engines would be an easy fit for a VAC Case? Thinking of building a pulling tractor. Thanks.

Some of you think you cant beat the ac's well you can. I pulled against one and i had a good 20 feet on him. His wc was running a little rich though. My tractor is pretty much stock. I took 2nd and was really happy because i was pulling against some pretty hot tractors like a john deere Mt and a super c that i think has a combine motor in it. The tractor that beat me was a vc case with the continental motor in it.

Probably is'nt an easy fit. We're putting a 201 combine engine in our VAC for next pulling season. Not a bolt on by any means but not that difficult. Putting on a pair of 12.4 38s will be pulling 3500#, 3800#, 4300#. DCPULLER

I was told that the same basic block from the VAC was also used the older gasoline powered 1845 Case Uniloader. I haven't taken the time to verify this, but I imagine that if it's true some good parts could be gotten from one of those. Any input?

The early 148's will fit from what I hear. The later 148 CID engines will not fit. You can do alot of work and get the 159 parts into a 148 but you still will not have the HP even close to the AC's. Casepower did an insane amount of work and put a combine engine in his, but he had to machine the block all the way around and drill new holes to get it to bolt up to the bellhousing. It looked awsome when he was done, but it didn't look close to the original and could easily be picked out as not original. I own a couple of VAC's but have decided that if I ever build a tractor to really compete with the AC's based on HP alone, it won't be a VAC.

Here is the VAC with a 201 I built. There was a lot of changes made to this, as I built it from parts from the ground up. It was never a tractor before hand, but a pile of parts from 10 different tractors of all brands, along with a few car parts. If you are wanting to pull stock, or keep the original look, this is not the way to do it. If you want to pull 3rd. gear with 36" tires at around 8 or 9 MPH in light classes this will work fine. The tractor weighed 3250# with my 190# on it.

Hey CASEPOWER, sure on that weight? in reply to CASEPOWER, 10-25-2005 05:44:01
I thought that the final weight was a lot less than 3250. Did you mean 2350? I can pull my stock one in the 2500lb class even with my 170# on it. BTW, I still think that tractor is awsome! I look forward to the new issue of OPP.

I'm sorry, It was 2350# with me on it. I pulled it in 3700# in second one time. I was a little light, but had all the weights I owned and could barrow piled on. It still spun out in second with no problem. I should have pulled 3rd because there was a 12mph speed limit.

Your stock what??....There's no VA series tractor I know of that will go under 2750, let alone 2500. How stock is it?....all aluminum but looks stock or what?

My VAC came from the factory without a PTO. Then, I bought a bunch of parts from an old dealership years after they closed and got the factory cover that goes on the torque tube after removing the belt pulley and hydraulic pump (It's got the Eagle on it and everything). I am also running it without an alternator. Then I got a set of 9bolt hubs off of a Massey Harris, machined the keyway to the right size, and got a set of 9 bolt hole JD pressed steel 10"x28" rims. That's about it. The earlier VAC's without the eagle hitches were much lighter than the later ones.

Unless the state-certified scale down at the truckstop is off I'll have to differ with you on the 'earlier models are much lighter than Eagle Hitch tractors' statement particulary if the early one was equipped with the 'Master Hitch'. My '48 VAC weighed (with 'homebrewed' 3-point) 20 pounds heavier than my Eagle Hitch '51. Both have adjustable wide-front, wheel weights, 11.2 rears, no fluid, PTO, etc. The '48 scaled 3260 and the '51 weighed 3240 with nobody aboard. I was pretty amazed.....I haven't weighed my '48 VAC single-front yet as I am still taking off pieces. I suspect that the hubs such as yours make a big difference.

i have been told that the 600 combine engine will work but it needs some mods and i don't know what they are.300 is same engine just bigger bore and longer stroke.124 cu & 148 cu. you used to be able to buy oversized sleaves and pistons for 300 =159 cu.combine engine is called 200 or 201.it looks like a 148.300 was made off of vac, same block and head.
