OK, NOW HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT ADDING HYDRAULICS TO A DC OR CAN IT BE DONE?

DcTom I just traded for a DC that has hydraulics with a single remote, PTO, and Case bail lift. The tractor is a LP burner and it is either a factory setup or a slick dealer conversion. The problem is there is no serial number tag on the dash. The engine has a 1944 serial number on it and doesnt have bosses on the block for the oil filter base. Someone has welded a small piece of metal to the block and bolted the oil filter to it in the stock location. My question is how can I narrow down what year tractor I have without serial number? Is there casting date codes I could look for? Any ideas or should I forget it and call it a 44 model which would contradict your previous post because of hydraulics. BTW I have the tractor split right now in order to replace the clutch. Thanks for the help. God Bless.

You can do some detective work and narrow it down somewhat but probably not to the exact year. For starters, if the engine is a 1944 it is not a factory equipped LP unit as those first came out in late 1951. It may be a factory conversion kit. Does it have a 6128A head? Some people bought the higher compression LP head and some didn't. Is it an ensign LP regulator? Does it have a special hood to fit the LP tank contour? This should give you some clue as to whether it is a factory conversion or not. As for the rest of the tractor, are the brake pedals separate (on either side of the tranny) or are they together on the right side? I believe they were moved to the right side in 1951, but DC Tom would know for sure. Also, do you have live PTO? This came out in 1952, I think. Again DC Tom would know exactly. I have a 1949 DC with hydraulic pump so that means they were available in 1949 at least. I hope this helps you out. Don

Don my DC has the 6128a cylinder head. It is equipped with the Ensign propane system. I looks just like pictures of a factory propane DC in the parts book. This tractor has separate brake pedals. The hood fits the tank contour although the light bar goes straight across the tank and the pictures in the parts book show the light bar jogging back to fit the contour of the LP tank. The pto is not live as near as I can tell but I havent ran the tractor yet(bad clutch). This tracor has a single hydraulic remote with the Case hydraulic cylinder bail lift. Thanks for any info yall are a great help.

ANother place you can look is underneath where the front end of the drawbar bolts to the trans- mission case. There should be a month and year cast into the side of that protrusion.

You never know what people will do to these things. I have a 1946 that has single valve hydraulics
