question, on the back of my dc as your facing the back of the tractor there is a L shaped rod that turns when the pto is in gear and there is a pedal on the right side that lifts up that stops it from turning, what is this and what was it used for?

that is the motor lift that lifts all mounted implements, there should be a spring on that little pedel to keep it in the raised position and as you step on it with your heel it will turn the crank 1/2 turn to lower or rais said implement

i've notice where a spring goes so i thought that be the case. when i pull up on the pedal it stops rotation but it has a click noise, is that where it not completely disengageing? and with the spring off mine turns a complete circle is that normal? what kind of equipment will work with this?

Yes if the pedel stays down it will keep going, a slight clicking noise is normal with the pto running, it will life anything that was mounted on that tractor, cultivators listers mowers and the list goes on any mounted implement

this one i'm working on now is i believe a '44 model. i've got a '40 model that i have not started on but it has a different mag which is inline with the generator which is shaft diven i've heard these models are hard to time and keep in time , is this true?

not if the cuplings were kept NEW, but if they were wore out than yes could give a little problenm
