I have a 580 constuction king diesel loader and I need to replace the large glow plug in the intake manifold. Does anyone know where to get one? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Dave: Case no longer furnishes that Plug. Chalmers used the same thing, but they don't offer it either. What's wrong with the 1 you have? I have repaired them. Many times the plug is OK, but the solenoid providing power fails. Good Luck.

I am sure the solenoid is ok. The element of the glow plug sparks down the center of the plug when power is applied. If anyone has one please let me know. Please send a pic and measurements so that I can be sure it is the correct one.

Since the agricultural tractor engines and the construction equipment engines are basically the same, the glow plug should be available from either Case dealers. Certainly, tractor salvage yards should have one. Stamm Equipment in Wayland, MI (616) 792-6204, Cook Equipment in Allegan, MI (616) 673-5454.

When working properly, my intake glow plug cranks the tractor every time without either. It works best when in cool weather. It does put a drain on the battery but after starting the battery builds back up fast enough.

At least in my experiences, the amount of power taken from the battery to activate the glow plug reduces the amount of power to turn the engine over in cold weather. I've had better luck with a quick shot of ether in the air cleaner then hit the start button without battery drainage from the glow plug. Obviously, NEVER use both ether and glow plugs at the same time unless you want to send your intake maniflod into orbit!
