I just bought a case vac and a case dc3. Couple of questions for you guys. Was there ever a "case dc" and not a "case dc3?" Mine is a narrow front, so it must be a dc3. Also, how rare are these tractors. The one i got is immaculate, rigth off the farm, but motor is stuck. Should i try to get it running or part it out? Thanks
clayt

DC's aren't rare, they're just the finest rowcrop tractor ever built....at least they are to me. I can't stand the idea of a complete tractor being parted out for any reason. There are only a limited number of these old monsters out there, and with so many people buying them up to part out these days it's getting worse all the time. I just traded for a 51 DC last week. It will go with our 39, and 40 models, and my brothers DC4, and I have a 37 CC that I can't wait to get running to compare it to the DC's. Good luck

I hate to see a good tractor go to waist.

It's a judgement call. I love the DC. If it is not all worn out and sloppy eleswhere, I'd get it running. One can spend a LOT of time and money catching up with 50+ years of wear, neglect, and/or abuse. Fixing up any old tractor with the intention of making money isn't gonna happen. Anyone who's propperly restored an old tractor either isn't adding up all their receipts or gave up long ago on recovering their investment. If you don't have a real attachment to the tractor, sell it to someone who does. And, no I'm not looking for another one! Glenn F.

I woudn"t put much money in them, there are cheap enought maybe you can find an engine that is running for a couple hundred bucks to put in your nicer one. Unless you are using it I personally wouldn"t put any money in it, nobody will give you anything for it, expect in this area (Ohio) to get in the 500.00 for a loose non running case.

No I can't say I am a John Deere man, I have 8 or 9 cases around here I have a DC that has augered a couple hundred thousand bushels of soybeans I like it just fine. Unless the man has a use for it to use the snot out of it than I recommend he don't put much money in it.

My sefl I'd get them up and running. The engine being stuck is no big deal, I've unlocked a lot of engines and never pulled the head to do so. Fill the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. Then put a battery in the box and see if it turns over, be sure you pull the plugs back out and never leave the plugs out for more then a few hours at most. If it still hasn't broke free then top the tranny fluid off with turpentine and let it sit a few more day and try to turn it over again. If that doesn't do it then you will need to open it up. But so far that has never not worked for me.

Leaveing them out very long cause condensation and other water to get in the cylinders and make things worse, and also other junk can get in the cylinders like dirt etc. I never leave spark plugs out of any engine no matter what.

First of all what year is it? The 1952-54's are worth more than the earlier models. DC-3's can be turned into DC-4's in about one hour. You can put a number of different fron tends on this machine.

They cannot be considered rare. Parting out is an option, but if it is a newer model, you might put it on ebay and see what you get? For a non runner, don't expect more than $1000, no matter how good it looks. And, if you fix it up, don't plan to make money on the project. As Wayne says, it is a labor of love. Hey! Somebody's got to do it! LOL
