I'm a newcomer to this site but it has been very helpful to me so far. I bought a Case 300 a while back. After an hour or so of mowing, the tractor dies and gas pours out of the air inlet of the carburetor.

Not knowing the condition of the carb, I bought a rebuild kit. It is a TSX-635. Everything was going fine until I went to re-install the power jet. I tried for over an hour in various positions to get the power jet screwed in, being careful not to cross thread it. No matter how I held my tongue, it always ended up cocking after a turn or two. I noticed the threads on the jet have a nick in them. The rebuild kit I got did not have the power jet. Can you get this anywhere? Any tricks to getting it started all the way down that hole?

As a result of that bad luck, I am also considering getting a new or rebuilt carb. Any comments about the rebuilt ones or new Zenith's is appreciated. Are they as good as the MS?

Also, I can't find the serial number for this tractor. I have looked around the instrument panel below the steering wheel and on the sides but don't see it. Was it a plate or just stamped on the sheet metal. The paint is thick in this area so maybe it is just covered.

Thanks for your help!

I have sort of the same problem on my 300. The carburetor is the TSX 635, but mine has a big chunk of the casting broke off around the bolt holes. I haven't been able to find a used or rebuilt one and am considering the Zenith like you mentioned. Many off the carb shops will rebuild yours, they would probably be able to fix your problem. If you do decide to go with a zenith I would be interested in buying yours so I could use the top half.

I have some parts TSX's lying around that I would sell pieces out of. In all the TSX's I have looked at I see 3 differences.

1. Which side the idle mixture screw goes in.
2. Which side the throttle shaft goes in from.
3. The degree of angle on the throttle butterfly.

If you are interested let me know.

I bought a new power jet for a Schebler TSX-114 VAC carburator from a guy named Dan Clark at 573-374-0092. He does business the old way - no email or computer. He runs a carb rebuilding service and by the way it was not cheap.

Most kits I have seen lately do not include it.

Why not get a small die and chase it out?? I seem to recall always getting new jets it's usually the only thing I needed.!! Wayne
