I have the right hand brake assembly off of my DC.Can I remove the casting going into the transmission case to get the oil seal out? My manual isn't very clear on this part. It looks easy to remove but is it much to install again? Or will the large splined shaft stay in place? I hope this is clear enough to understand what I'm asking. John.

John; the diff shaft will fall but it is not too hard to raise it back up and slide the plate back where it belongs, caution only do one side at a time tom

Thanks,It kinda looked like that was the case. Will my CNH dealer have these seals,Or would a bearing jobber be a better deal? John.

Just a word of caution. Put some thin shim stock over the splines BEFORE you slide the seal and bearing carrier back into place. If you don't, the splines will cut the new seal and it will still leak, believe me!

Thanks for that advice,It wouldn't have ever crossed my mind to do it.When I pulled the part with the seal in it out there were 14 thin shims behind it. That seems like alot (?) Is it? John.

If there was no play in the splined shaft, the shims should not be messed with. They control the fit of the roller bearing you can see when the carrier is pulled out to install the new seal. After you have the new seals in and all tightened up, check for up and down play and in and out play. Remove shims till play is gone but bearing is not binding. A tiny bit loose is better than too tight.

Thanks to all for your help. These seals are about the only leaks on this tractor, other than finding a few missing parts, this should be a pretty easy rebuild.John.
