After market oil pressure guages

I just replaced my oil pressure guage on my VAC with and remanufactured (made in India)"Case" guage. I get a reading of about 5lbs of pressure. I've read some of the previous postings (archives)on oil pressure and 5lbs. is "dangerously" low according to those who "know". The old guage was broken, so I have no idea what it would have registered (it looked original). My question--Can you trust that these guages give a proper reading? I compared the holes in the guage I took off and the one I put on. The original Case guage hole was considerably larger and the new guage was just a pin hole. I've had the valve cover off and oil is being pumped up there--so I know the pump is working and there is a flow in the small pipe to the guage. Also, would air in the line affect the pressure reading? Someone talked about "bleeding the line". Comments please.

VACs don't generate alot of oil pressure but 5lbs is too low. Air in the line is not an issue as the air is compressed by the oil. If you can't beg borrow or steal another mechanical guage to use as a test I would go to the auto parts store and buy one...$15 should do it. Much cheaper than ruining the engine or doing an unecessary overhaul
