I just drug in a v series case wide front that has been setting a spell, but after less than an hour with some mag work and fuel line work the ol girl sputtered to life and allowed me to drive her off the trailer. The serial # tag is gone, does anyone have any clues on what I can look for to narrow the year model down? I have another v series with a wimpy I beam style front axle and one piece cast front rim, wheel. This one has a front axle similar to My 51 vai, and also has 6 lug stamped rims like My vai.Any clues? Thanks in advance.

It's too bad that Case didn't stamp the serial number some other place on the chassis in addition to that little dash plate, I don't think there is any way to determine for sure what year yours is. Your little V has the 124 version of the Continental F400 series engine, and Case used the 124 version with removeable sleeves, most Continental 4-cylinder flatheads had the cylinder bore cast in the block without using sleeves. I just finished a restoration on a v series standard wide front, they are interesting little tractors. Case made almost 15000 V series in total but only about 2350 were like yours and mine. Most were row crops with two narrow front wheels, that would be the VC series of V's. There were a small number of V standard fronts which were VI industrials and VO orchards. I have been told that there were at least some rowcrop versions made with an adjustable wide front. I have an interesting chapter here from a Case history book that tells all about the V series, why Case made them and why they eventually changed over to the VA series in 1942. Almost all of the V series parts were made by outside vendors and although they look very much like the VA's, only a small number of parts were common to both V and VA tractors. For example, I used a clutch shaft from a VA in my V when I redid it. If you want to hit on my name link in this post, I can mail you a copy of this history section to your home mailing address. Looking forward to hearing from you.

V series were built 1940 and 1941 with a very few in 1942 tom
