Were the 800 crankshafts in the diesels case hardened? Is grinding rods and mains any problem? Heard of broken cranks after grinding, but don't know what models.

Diesel cranks are induction hardned. I have always heard you can grind 10thousants off but more is risky Ihave a830 that had 10thousants off of throws many yrs ago - no problem

grinding that little amount off of a crankshaft isn't going to make it break.something else made it break.

the old 830 would break if the ballance shaft was not timed right at the time of rebuild .the 800 267 diesel wont have that problem it has no ballance shaft. if you pull the pan and it dose have a balance shaft someone swapped in a 301
