I HAVE A 1955 CASE 400 GAS,A 411.I have tried to repair the starter and have been looking for a replacement but all the parts houses and even my local Case IH dealer cant seem to figure out which starter I have, there are no markings or casting numbers except for a "ps650" on the nose cone,I made a new nose cone bushing out of some old plumming parts and cleaned up the brushes and it works for now,the brushes are made onto the field coils and ground side wiring.I think it is a delco but so far all the parts guy say they only list a prestolite but they also list all 400 series cases as diesels, are the starters all the same??? Thanks Bob,,,

My old Delco-Remy book shows an MAX-4095 (Autolite) as being a starter for a '54-'57 Case 400 gas. Brush set: A750 and drive end bushing: A1668

Where are you located. "Starter Alternator Exchange" in Elkhart, IN can probably help you. Most "starter shops" probably (maybe) can.

Bob, I show 2 diffrent starters for gas 400 tractors in that time period. they are both prestolite. one starter is a max-4019. The other is a lester # 5441, the dixie# is ts-5018. I could only see a picture of the 5441.
If you can take it to a starter shop they should be able to get the pieces you need without that much trouble.Maybe some of the other guys can jump in and give you the case numbers.
Hope this helps, jstpa
