What is the best timing for a 2390 engine. I thought it was 27 degrees BTDC but on the valve cover it says the timing is 25 degrees BTDC. Which produces the most power, this fuel is getting expensive! And can you set at 1270 or 1370 to these settings. I think they are supposed to be at 29 degrees.

25 degrees is what the service manual says.27 is for the 2590's.The farther you advance to a point will make more power, also more smoke and heat.

I have a pyro installed post turbo so I can monitor the temps. So 25 degrees is factory for the 2390. I assume that advancing means further from TDC so 27 or 29 degrees would be advancing. Am I correct. Or am I backwards here.

That's correct,if I remember correctly my 1170 was 30 or 31 BTDC.Another advantage to 25 is that the engine starts better in the cold, the farther the advance the harder they start.
