I'm trying to determine if my Dual 3pt backhoe is an open or closed valve set up. I'm running it off my control valve on a David Brown 1210. Someone told me to put compressed air in the intake and if it is an open system it would blow air out the outtake in the valve. I tried that and it did not blow through. I have however been using this for several years. I did just rebuild the control valve. Would the backhoe work if it was a closed valve system and I was running it on my open valve tractor hydr. system?

You should be able to use an open center implement with a closed center hydraulic system, it will just be harder on the tractor since it is not expecting to be pumping oil continuously. If you are running it off of a remote outlet you might have to block the lever in the "up" or "down" position.

Running a closed center implement on an open center tractor might not work. If hooked to a remote outlet, it would only work when the handle was in the "up" or "down" position, much like the previous system. If the implement controls are neutral when remote outlet is turned on, the tractor will behave the same as if you ran a hydraulic cylinder to its limit and didn"t release the handle. The tractor will probably complain.

Hope this helps some, it was longer winded than I intended.
