990 Valve Adjustment

Has anyone out here ever adjusted the valves on a 990. I have a service manual and it mentioned the best time to do this is when the injectors are removed to allow the engine to be turned freely. I would like to know if anyone has done this without removing the injectors. I'd rather not break into the fuel system if I don't have to.
Thanks for your help

As a mechanic, I just flick the key, to roll the engine each compression. If you have never done this before, either put a spanner on the nut on the crankshaft pulley, or put the PTO into gear, put a cresent on the PTO output shaft and turn this. Try high or low to see which is the easiest. This will turn the engine OK. If you are not sure send me an email. Thanks, Barry Key.

Welll...when i adjusted mine the injectors were in....but the engine had so much blow by on the rings i don't think it would have mattered. if compression on you engine makes it hard to roll engine to the point mentioned in the manual, (its harder if you have to use the starter) i suppose you could get or make a lever to open an exhaust valve to release compression. my gut feelin
