I have been looking for a forklift with no luck when it occured to me to try a tractor with forks adapted. I have found a 1570 with a loader for sale but haven't seen it yet. Any idea of whether this will do the job for me? It has 8000 hours so I am not sure what to look for on inspection.

I figure I can also do some snow removal and some work on some property I own too. I need to transport it so one thing I really need to know is what the GVW of these are. I have a feeling this is too much machine for me but need some opinions. Thanks

Sounds like a little too much tractor for your needs... I think you would find it a bit clumsy to plow snow. Also if you have to get into the motor you will drop at least 5 grand probably more. How much weight do you need to lift? I think you should look for a good older 1970s 580 loader/backhoe. You can take the backhoe off and replace it with some other kind of ballast...generally a big chunk of concrete. The 580 is a nice little tractor Case made a ton of them and still do. The shuttle shift is wonderful for utility work. Stay away from the older (1980s and older) John Deeres their shuttle shift is a joke! As far as the weight issue, it depends on the how old and how much ballast you add, but I would guess around 7 to 9K #"s.

Thanks for the info. Yes, way to much machine. I think we are on the same wavelength here as I had started thinking about a 580 myself. I have run them for many hours and they almost certainly will pickup the 2000 lbs. max I need to do. The only other issue would be the GVW. I can only carry 8000 on my trailer so hopefuly they are under that. I guess as you suggest I could drop the hoe as I won"t need it much.

That is a big tractor! 180 horse and weighing in at about 14-16k plus the loader. Good tractor otherwise.
