Ampmeter and Oil Meter questions....

I've bought a Case 530 (tractor type is irrelevent I think).

I've replaced all the gauges but I have two problems...

1- Oil pressure isn't showing anything. I know the gauge is good (new) the old one showed no pressure either so I figured it was bad. I replaced the fittings and line from the block to the gauge. On both the old line and the new line, there was PLENTY of oil that came out at the block with no line attached, but it just barely trickled at the gauge end (without the gauge). Why would I have no pressure 12" above the block connector? Again, new line, no kinks, same symptoms on both the old and new parts.

2- The Ampmeter. Exactly where is this baby to be hooked up to? As an ampmeter it should be in series with a circuit but which one. I don't have the manuals or electrical drawings (manuals have been ordered but not here). I think the original wire went to a block behind the motor labeled (BAT, FLD, ???) Not sure which lug though. I suspect these devices should be all hooked up in the same circuit regardless of the tractor and should indicate alternator juice (not sure though). Can someone tell me where the terminals of this meter are to be connected to?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Your Ammeter is connected between the Battery + post and the Battery terminal on the Regulator. all other systems light and such connect to the ampmeter on the regulator side.

as far as the oil pressure gauge take the valve cover off and see if oil is getting the head. Run it at idle to test. if no oil then your pump or something inbetween is not working or plugged. If you have oil pressure at the valves then look for blockage in the line going to the gauge from the block also the block itself could be blocked try using air to back flush the system.

GB, Im unsure about the oil presure but can provide some insight regarding an ammeter.

The ammeters supply side terminal has but ONE wire and it must be connected to the batterys hot ungrounded post. That may be at the battery itself or more often from the big post on the starter switch but must be the hot ungrounded battery feed as all loads should flow through the ammeter on their way to the battery to get an accurate net charge or discharge reading.

The ammeters other load side terminal often has a couple wires: One the BAT terminal on the Voltage Regulator is wired there PLUS all other loads like lights n ignition must be fed from there usually by a wire or wires going to the BAT input terminal on said switches.

Thanks John!

Very well described. I'll hook it up tonight.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone...

I've got the Ammeter hooked up and it works, but the needle sure bounces around a lot (vibration???) - is that normal? Sometimes it seems more still than others, and I can see that turning on the lights pulls it down, and that it is "+" for charging. But it vibrates back and forth a lot. None of the other gauges do this, and their all new as well.

There is a wiring diagram for a Super H on this site that might help. Go to Parts & Pieces/Super H-wiring diagram.

Thanks D.

One question though. On the regulator, there are three four terminals (one directly to the battery, and three others). I can't make out the drawing - would you be able to tell mee what the three terminals are and which is which?

Thanks.

I connected mine between the A post of the generator and the regulator. As far as your oil pressure, mine shows about 60 PSI. I put a tee in the same location that the electric sender was located.

Thanks Tom.

No electrical sender on mine. I definitely have a problem if you're at 60 lbs.

If I had a diagram of the oil fluid circuit, I night be able to troubleshoot if something is stuck or shot.
