Two ?'s on LA timing ...

Helping a friend here time his LA and I've got a couple of questions. First, I know that when the impulse trips, the flywheel "D" mark should be visible through that little inspection hole in the clutch housing. Problem is that the flywheel is picking up oil (wet clutch I assume) and the oil is obscuring visibility along the edge of the flywheel. I can only clear little portions of the flywheel's edge since the hole is so small. Any suggestions? Second Question .... the mag is not a case Mag, I think it might be FM. Anyways, if we find that some fine timing must be done, it appears as if there is a threaded coupling collar between the mag and the cam drive unit. Does a guy have to crack this loose and then turn the mag shaft till it's correct and then tighten those collar nuts down again? Thanks for the help.

You can drain the oil out of the clutch ,there is a drain plug in the bottom of the clutch/flywheel
housing. You can fine tune the timing by loosening
the coupling collar.
