DC propane questions

Why are most DC tractors on propane, have the hood, radiator, and fuel tank painted Desert Tan?

My thoughts were that if a guy traded his "old" DC in on a new 400b or something, the Case dealer would put the propane kit on the tractor just to use up inventory on slow moving parts. Then the dealer would paint it like the newer Desert Tan tractors to make them more apealing, and newer looking.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for the info. I have always wondered about the color. I have seen them painted the correct flambeau red and the incorrect desert tan. They don't look to bad desert tan, but I always wondered how come so many were painted that way, since the desert tan paint scheme came out after the DC was produced.

Thanks,

There are a lot of earlier D and LA models that were switched over to propane. Some have the correct head (6128 on the D series) and some people just wanted the cheap conversion. I think it had more to do with the price of LP gas than anything else. An old Case dealer told me that in 1953 LP was 6 cents a gallon and gas was about 24 cents a gallon. It didn't take people long to figure the math. About the paint scheme, there are a lot of VAC's that have been painted Desert Sand too. I don't know why anybody would do that.

I would think it has more to do with the lighter color keeping the tank cooler when it's out in the Sun. If they just painted the tank and not the hood, it would really look terrible. 2 cents.
