Restoring DEX (Australia) did not have starter when got tractor. Have found Lucas starter with same mounting, but does not have oil seal on drive shaft. Will this work like it is or will I have to fit a seal to the shaft to stop oil from clutch entering starter motor. Thanks in advance

You might try useing a gasket that is used on a case S series. I used a S starter in my D and it leaked oil but I didn't have the gaskets. I have used a D series starter in S and the seal on it worked so you should be able to reverse it the other way.

The whole flywheel/starter area is awash with oil all the time. I have tried running one of my LAs without starter in it and oil flies out everwhere. I think you would have to have an oil seal in the starter.
