I just bought a 1949 Case SC with a wide front end. It's in pretty good condition for it's age. It's running and is completely usable, but I'd like to change the starter and solenoid, as well as the generator. I'd also consider upgrading the 6v system to a 12v system if the parts are readily available. Any help on where I can find these parts either used or repro would be greatly appreciated. I've attached of picture of her as well.

If you have the square voltage regulator, look at the fuse there on the regulator. It may have blown for some reason and the generator may be good. Look closely because you may not be aware that there is a fuse there!

I looked at the voltage regulator, it has a small coil like a tiny spring on the outside on one side. Is this the fuse? Also, I am trying to shop for a new one online, and I am not sure which one it takes? It mounts directly on the generator, I have a 6v system, 1949 Case SC. I saw mention of "cutout" on some of the part descriptions of some voltage regulators on some of the online parts sites, I am not sure what they are referring to? Does anyone know which one mine takes?

You should be able to get the starter and generator rebuilt locally at an automotive electrical shop. The 6 volt should turn it fine if your cables are large enough. Make sure the battery cables are at least size No.2. Size No.1 would be even better. Look at the links posted on the web site below for parts suppliers:

I put a new exhaust pipe on it yesterday, still lacking a muffler. I'm also needing a complete air cleaner assembly.

Sharp lookin ol'e girl. What is the problem with the starter? They don't use a solenoid, just the push-button switch. With a good battery, and proper cables, 6V does a good job on an "SC".

Thanks for the reply. The starter frequently will just spin without engaging the flywheel. The generator is shot, does not charge the battery. Needs to be jump started if left sitting.

Before I dive head first into the generator, I am wondering would a bad voltage regulator prevent the battery from charging?
