Acquired a case 830 a little while back, but it is missing the serial number tag off of the side. Is there anywhere else on the tractor it might have a number like some of the older cases? Also, what year range were they made in? I"m failry sure this is a early one, has older clamshell fenders, and rigid eagle arms. Thanks for any help.

Dug

Dug,
I have an older 830 that from the ser.# is a "62 and when I was working on the pto and hyd. pump noticed what I believe to be a casting date on the rear housing. On mine it is located about 6 inches below the pto shaft at the 7 o"clock position just above the casting # for the housing. Mine has 9 11 61. Might help you narrow it down. Jim

Not sure if there is another place for serial number, I know there should be a tag by the fuel pump that will say 301 on it. If you're 830 has a single stick shift with hi-low it 59-60, double stick shifts 60-63, and if the air cleaner is in front of the radiator(hi-profile)it's a 1963 (made one year)64 they went to the comfort king. Others might have more info for you.

What do you mean by double stick? Are you talking about the dual range models? Ours had 2 sticks, one for 4 speed transmission and one for "Hi/Lo" range. How does this differ with what you described for single stick with Hi/Lo. The aircleaner was in front of the radiator too. I had no idea what year it was, Dad bought it used in 1966. Great tractor!!

Single stick shifter does hi/low plus 4 gear selection with one shifter vs. two. Has a big knob showing selection. These early models also had a different block, crank and oil pump for for diesels(not sure about gas)
