Anyone out there know the factory weight of a Case model V (not VA) with a standard fixed-width front axle? No wheel weights or fluid, just as it rolled off the line? I don't know if was ever tested at Nebraska, the weight would probably be in there. The reason I ask is that I read here in a Case tractor book that it was 4300 pounds which somehow I doubt. I realize that the V had a pretty hefty tranny/differential/axle setup and that Continental flathead isn't light by any means, but I'm suprised at that weight in the book.

I"m not sure on the standard V, but my VC with no wheel weights or fluid weighed around 2,850 lbs.(to the best of my recollection). I know it was a lot lighter than I thought, and it put me in the same weight class as H Farmall and WD45 Allis when I pulled it, which I thought was a little tough to compete with (HP-wise).
Hope this helps.

Dale, Case was always heavy when compared to red and green. A manufacturing engineer once told me a good rule of thumb when comparing the realtive quality of a machine was to compare weights. The heavier machumnes are usually more sturdily built and usually higher quality as no corners were cut. Red and green owner may disagree, but that is what I was told by a respect authority.

Your Case won't spin out as quick as the other guys will. Higher horse ower and light weight mean a higher tendency to spin. You keep moving the load and they spinout half way down, sounds fair to me!!

J,
I agree. At the time, I was 16 years old, and thought HP meant it all. The real trouble was the fact that the pull had been going on for 6 or 7 hours, and I had 20 lbs. of air in a BRAND new set of tires. Not a good pull. I buried it, climbed back out, then buried it again.
The saddest day of my life: I was outpulled by an 8N (PLEASE... DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!!)LOL
