The front wheels on my 530 backhoe doesn't want to turn from left to right. Is there a separate oil reservore for the power steering or do I have an air lock? As it is right now, I turn the wheel but they don't turn with, and when they do they turn too much. Any suggestions? Thanks Wendell

Hydrostatic power steering wasn't used until the 580B was introduced. Prior to that, Case used a Bendix cylinder with a directional valve controlled by the steering gear box. Sometimes the control valve on that cylinder will go out of adjustment. It will turn one direction but not the other. Check the selector valve. Phil is correct about a seperate reservoir for the power steering located on the right side.

Wendell, The Engine driven Power Steering Pump has the only reservoir. The Steering wheel has a manual bi-directional pump that provides the pressure to a six port Control Valve.

There is NO direct relationship between the Steering wheel and the wheels. (It is more akin to a Computer MOUSE Resolver). If you are driving down a road and need to constantly correct, to the left, your steering wheel may have rotated 3 complete revolutions in a mile, but your wheels only moved a small increment each time and are still relatively straight ahead.

Hope this helps,
