A few weeks ago I went to a sale with 2 loose CC's and two parts CC's. All needed tires and parts ones were pretty poor shape. Wife said I didn't need any more junk.(DON'T TELL WIFE WHERE YOU'RE GOING)My brother bought a running CC this last Sat. for $1000. My father was at a different sale and got a stuck CC and VC for $300 each. Haven't seen their purchases yet but might need help with info on the VC. Dad says it needs 8-28 rear tires, is that right? How many were made. Don't think there are many people restoring Case in Iowa. See a lot of red and green.

The V series of Case tractors were made from 39-41/42 or about then. They were really the forerunner of the VA series and although they looked quite similar in style, they were pretty much a different tractor and shared some common parts but for the most part were different. Most if not all of the components were not made by case but were outsourced to various manufacturers. It was one Case that is considered to be a vendor tractor for that reason. The engine was a Continental F400 series 124 cubic inch version with wet sleeves. Pretty much the same engine used in a lot of ag applications, especially by Massey Harris. There were about 15000 V series made (as compared to about 150000 VA's. The V series included about 12500 VC's (most narrow fronts but some had adjustable wide front axles) while about 2500 had the standard (fixed width) wide front. Of these 2500, there were also a small number of VO orchard and VI industrial versions. Apparently, Case wasn't happy that the V series had as much power as it did and they deliberately downgraded engine RPM's to reduce it's power. The reason was that the V series was almost comparable to Case's own S series which was supposed to be the next step up in tractor size.

Mike, how are you doing on your model V restoration? Do you have some picture to post on your progress?
Thanks, Mike

Poking along as usual .... it's going back together slowly. Everything is pretty much finished and painted but not reassembled completely. I started it a few weeks ago and it sounds good but I've got some governor problems to figure out, etc. And the usual leaks in various places but nothing too bad. I'd love to find a parts tractor with the carb linkage, I'll have to make my own. I've got a lot of photos from other tractors and my own diagrams with sizes etc. so that will take a little time, it's a rather strange and complicated set up.
