I posted this last week but it didn't seem to get there.. I have a DB 1210 that is getting more and more difficult to shift the PTO into gear.
I've tried adjusting the PTO hand clutch to take up more "grab", that helped for a bit but now there doesn't seem to be anything left. Do I need a new PTO clutch, and if so, can this be done without splitting the machine? I need it for baling this summer.

Thanks for the input, Elmer!

Since the main clutch was acting strange as well, I drove the tractor to a nearby shop.
After splitting it, they found that the pilot bearing on the PTO clutch had failed. This is what happens when the PTO hand clutch is used to keep the PTO off -- it's very hard on the bearings.

Unfortunately the main clutch received some broken junk from all this, so I need a fair bit of work. The shop should have it done this Friday.

Remove the round cover under the clutch housing. 4 bolts removes it. Make sure the bearing is in tact.
