I am putting my SC CASE back together. I understand the lifters are to be set at .010 and .010. Is this with the engine cold and not running? Thanks, Glenn F.

With the engine cold and not running. It is better to adjust them a little loose than to get them too tight. If you don't have a hand crank to turn the engine with, you can put a ratchet on the big nut that's holds the belt pulley on to turn the engine.

I assume this would be the same on a DC. I can remember my dad setting the tappets on older engines with the engine running. I just put the head on my DC and set them cold and not running. It was making a little rattle and I was thinking of pulling the valve cover and setting with it running. I was thinking the lifters had to be pumped up. ????? ? Thanks for any advise.

The engine has solid push rods. You should also spin them around with your fingers to see if any of them are bent.
