Hi,

Have a Case 300 Tripl-Range tractor that I'm having a hard time getting the year for. The only serial number I can find is on the engine, RH side as you sit on the tractor, and it is vertically stamped on a raised portion of the casing and reads 230r12010. No nameplates that I can find still exist, and I don't know where else to look. The boards I have seen say to look on the block above the oil filler tube but this one's motor has that coming off the top right in front of the gas tank.

The only place I find info on this serial number is under Farmall but I know this one is a Case and beleive it to be somewhere in the 50's. The motor is original as far as I can tell and was only rehauled 6 years ago and runs great!

Can anyone help?

It should have the sheet metal painted "desert sunset" (light tan) and the rest of the tractor painted "flambeau red". Look through the tractor photos on this web site under "Galleries" and you should find a photo of a 300B.

It's easy to tell if it's a 300 or a 300B, the lights on the "56 or "57 round nose are located on the back of the side sheet metal and "58 and "59 300B models has the light in front at the top of the hood. About the only difference in the models is the styling and a few castings. Roger

Must be a 300B then since the lights are at the top of the front (with a very cool "Old Abe" metal symbol inbetween.

Thanks Roger300 cause that settled that. Now if I could just ascertain where and when it was built.

BTW Do you know the original color of the tractor? It"s painted the off yellow right now but I think it was originally an orange-red combination.

Is this a round nose 300 or the 300B series? The round nose 300's were built in 55-57 years and the "B" versions were 58-59 years. Maybe some of the folks here can tell you where to look for some id numbers if your serial plate it gone.

ID Serial plate is not present. I think it is a a "B" version from what I have seen in some pictures on the net but since none of them were head on it"s hard to tell.

Thanks John H for pointing me closer. I hope someone can tell me where I can look to see some more ID marks such as casting or ID plates that were not on the instrument panel.
