Which is the correct way to put the pilot bearing in the crankshaft. The open side toward the clutch, or the open side toward the crankshaft. The bearing came out with the open side toward the crankshaft. The diagram in my book looks different. (One side of the roller bearing is sealed)

I would think the open side would be towards the flywheel with grease packed in behind it. Actually a sealed bearing would be the best, but you won't wear this one out anyway.

When you say the open side toward flywheel, are you saying open side toward the transmission or engine?
