This auction is tomorrow, and here is what I am looking at. It's advertised as a Case 530 with front loader and backhoe with 2 backhoe buckets. It's a gas tractor. I am looking for a tractor to use on about 5 acres for digging trenches up to 5 ft deep, moving dirt and mulch, and various other 3-point attachments. Would this tractor be appropriate? Can anyone tell me anything about it based on these pictures:

What would you give for it? I got a bunch of help from the guys over at the 8N forum, and decided against the 8N, now I'm trying to look at the Case. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks much,

Darren McLaughlin

the older case backhoes are the toughest ever made.it may get a little sloppy but it will keep on working.it will be a way better hoe than the flimsy three point hitch hoe.just my two cents worth from 40 years of experience. bob

Bob,
I agree with you 100%
Thats a 540H w/ model 31 loader & hoe. I have the same tractor. Some parts are no longer available but I've been able to find things to keep it going. 580's are nice just because more parts are available for the guy thats not a seasoned mechanic.
Thats two more cents worth.....

You can probably buy the tractor for what you will pay for a 3 pt hitch backhoe. It will work much better and quicker. Plus it is a lot of fun.

Never mind on this post...I found out that this isn't a 3-point backhoe, and is actually integrated with the tractor frame, hence no pto and no 3-point hitch I guess. I am looking for something with a 3-point hitch and a removable backhoe.. I don't need to end up owning 2 different tractors.. 1 for backhoe work (occassional) and the other for blade work etc.. bummer.

Don,

You write "I don"t need to end up owning 2 different tractors.. 1 for backhoe work (occassional) and the other for blade work etc.. bummer."

This is dangerous thinking. Of course you need AT LEAST 2 tractors! :-)

haha.. yeah I know.. it's a dangerous thing buying more than 1 tractor.. from what I hear they tend to multiply!
