Today, I noticed a rattling noise whenever I have my clutch engaged. The noise does not happen all the time. Is there such a thing as a bearing that is worn? If I take the bearing cover off the left side will that show me if something is wrong? It seems more pronounced on the left side opposite the belt pulley.

It sounds like the pilot bearing is getting worn and is allowing the rivets from clutch get to the center hub of the flywheel. Had the same happen to me. Replaced the pilot bearing and the noise went away. The sound will only get worse as time progresses. Hope this helps Jim

I was reading in the manual and wonder if it is the bearing on the clutch pinion shaft. I forgot to say this is on a 1937 Case L. It is a dry bearing vibration sound.

Looks like you are going have to split the tractor and pull the clutch out the only really safe way to tell what's wrong it to look at the parts while you hav ethen out of the tractor.
