Could be any one of a dozen things. Check for fuel at the carb, spark at a spark plug, etc. Try to narrow it down to fuel or spark. Run a hot wire from the battery to the coil to by-pass the ignition switch. Don't leave the wire on there very long unless the engine is running.

Check to see if it has a ballist resistor inline running to the distributor. My 730 had that problem when I bought it. you would turn the key to the start position and it would start, and as soon as the switch went to the run position, the engine would die. I finnaly removed the resistor, and just repace the points a little more often. shawn

Trans oil holds 5 gallons on 311. Use SAE 90. The torque tube holds 12 quarts. Use SAE 10W-30 oil. The crankcase holds 5 quarts with filter. O'Rellys auto parts has the oil filters. I have the original owners manual for the 300 series. Let me know if you need any toher info.
