The front expansion plug (aka freeze plug or welch plug) on the 251 CID engine block in the Case 400 tractors is 1 13/16" in diameter, Case part number is 010591AB. My normally good parts sources cannot find such a critter. Does anyone out there know of a source? I can buy a box of 100 from the manufacturer for $143..... .if anyone needs the other 99 my problems are solved....

This is a disc type plug, not a cup type plug.

Larry

Jerry,

The old plug and hole do measure 1 13/16" which matches the part number I listed above and the number shown in my 401 parts book. A 1 5/8" will be too small. They may have changed sizes along the way. So far, none of the parts houses I've tried even list the 1 13/16" size, but I will try an engine rebuilder and I'll also try the other part number that Joe gave.

Thanks, Larry

Doc Larry, try this number, out of my parts book 010590AB I5/8" WELCH PLUG. It shows the same for a Diesel and gas.
Hope this helps. You could try NAPA or go to a motor rebuilder they will have them. Jerry

The first character is likely the letter "O" not the digit "0". A cross-ref nr for O10591AB is A28092. I don't have nonmenclature, maybe your parts source can take it from there.

Joe
