I'm in the process of an overhaul on a case 301 powercell injector engine for a w7 loader.I found a crack in one head between the intake and exhaust valves.Has anyone sucessfully repaired this kind of crack and if so how?

Thanks for all the input, appears to be a very debateable subject. When refering to valve protrusion do you mean insert height or another dimention?

Hey Flash: I've had heads welded that cracked in the same place you describe with good success. George from Maryland might chime in, he's had good success welding them. Obviously, if you can find good heads that may be the way to go. Ether & overheating will damage a CASE head.

Don't even try! They will crack again and you will wreck that sleeve when it goes. And then you have the chance of getting antifreeze in the oil and spinning a bearing. If it is worth fixing fix it right and get a good head. Do not bother putting the engine togather without getting the valve protrution to the proper specs. If they are put togather right they will start much better. On a loader you want an engine that starts good. I just finished the engine on a W14 that the last owner slapped back togather quick and cheap. It spun the center main and shelled out the block and crankshaft. This time it cost an additional $1500 to replace the block and crankshaft. If it is worth fixing fix it right. You will never be sorry. DK
