For awhile the old tractor bug has been buzzing and was thinking about a Case tractor of the late 1950s. I've seen a 300 round nose but never the one with 2 headlights in the front. I've also seen Case 400s but again not with the 2 headlights. I also know there was a 500, 600 and so on. I'm also not sure when the 430, 530 and etc came out either.

Could someone give me a briefing on these tractors? Do these come up for sale? I don't seem to see any. Many made?

The 300 round nose and the 400 were produced around 55-57. The first 500, flambeau color, was produced 53-54 and then it was followed by the 600, desert sunset color. These tractors were followed by the "B" series, IE-300, 400, 500, 600, 700, etc.. The 30 series were started about 1960. Depends on what part of the country you are as to what comes up for sale. There is a couple of 300 round nose for sale in the photo ads. As far as a vailablity the 350 and the first 600 are two of the rarer units. Check your local papers, magazine types that include farm tractors. A good source for in is Peter Letourneau's Buyers Guide, second edition, for a starter reference.

Thanks John. I'm in PA. I had a chance at a Case 430 standard that was restored and I wish I had the $4000 he was asking at the time but I didn't (was out of work). SO I missed that one. Just recently there was a 530 Diesel advertised but by the time I called it was gone also. The few others I've seen were in pretty bad shape. Not sure what parts availability is like for these. I also heard from someone in CA who has a 300 in the shop that there looks to be a second clutch in the torque tube. Any idea what that is?

The other lever is the "live power" version for the 300 series. The lever will stop the tractor and with the clutch out the pto keeps running. Did you look at the 300's in the photo ads on this board?

John,

Yeah, I looked but I'm not a fan of those. There was a 300B listed there also, used for a puller. Not sure to what degree its been modified but its in pretty ugly shape, no grills. I sent a note to see whats up with it.

I have a 1959 Case 400B with the case-o-matic drive. It has the 2 headlights in the front. I have considered selling it.
