Case 430 fluid transfer

I'm having hydraulic fluid transferring to the final drive-transmission on a Case 430 Deisel, 1965 model. I think it's bad seals in the hydraulic cylinder that operates the 3 point lift. Anybody got any tips or pointers that could help before I go tearing into it? I haven't done one of these before.

Any advice or lessons learned would be appreciated!
Bob

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I'll take care removing the rockshaft housing and check for a return hose. I'm pretty sure it's O-rings in the piston, it shows all the symptoms. The lift has been acting up since I moved some really heavy stuff around with it.

I'll post the results when I finish the job. There's an older retired "Tractor Man" friend of mine that might get to participate in this effort!

I have had the same problem in case 200 and 630. If you know for certain it is the eagle hitch cylinder you can leave the arms down when not using the tractor. This helps some. The other way for the fluid to get into the transmission is bad seals between the torque tube and transmission case. Harder fix because the tractor needs to be split. Has anyone used ht or thc fluid in both the transmission and hydralic systems on these tractors?
I've been thinking of doing this but don't know if it would hurt the transmission and final drives? Then when the transmission case got over full and the torque tube low you could just transfer some of the fluid.

Some of the pistons only have o-rings sealing them. Machining the piston and installing a newer v-stlye piston ring may help. The latter ones used a cover under the piston and a drain hose back to the front resvoir. I saved one of those lift covers off of a 530 to sell.

Replace the drain back hose off the rockshaft while you are in there. The rockshaft housing can be stuck on there pretty tight, take your time getting it to pop loose.

I have a "69 430 that my Dad bought new. It does the same thing. I had it fixed once. It is the seal between the torque tube and transmission. After that I never fixed it again. When the hydraulics run low I just suck some oil out of the transmission and put it back in the hydraulics. No problem ever. ALso, the power steering pump leaks into the engine. The shaft is worn in the pump and I replaced the seal once. Now I just use engine oil in the hyd. pump and have no worry about transfering hyd. oil to the engine. Don"t tell me that I will hurt the tractor, I use it every day. My repair bills are low. Not all farmers are dumb, and most come up with home remedies not mentioned in repair manuals.
