My neighbor has one wasting away in the south 40 and said he would part with it. The hydrolics all were working, the crank is broke in half, the cab has some good windows. The Mfg. plate is in good shape and says Melthan, England. If there is an interest I will ask for permission to give a number to call.

Actually, just to be pedantic, its Meltham. Funny If you click on that link it shows a DB900 tractor . A friend of mine used to work for DB in Meltham and he says it was the worst thing that ever came out the David Brown factory!

Know a few farmers who got thousands of trouble free hours out of a 1200. Wouldn't be afraid to own one myself!

Yeah I was refering to the ill-fated 900, which was red with blue wheels not the 1200. He was telling me that particular model( which pre dates the red 990) nearly buggered the company, it was a dog!

I know some guys here who worked for the company. They also said that the 900 was a real problem tractor. They blamed it on David Brown Jr. The old boy was heavily involved with winning the Lemans with the Aston Martin car. When he won it in 1959, he came back and dropped the hammer on the tractor division and came out with the 950 which was a strong tractor.

Re: David Brown Model Identification in reply to Elmer, 05-08-2005 14:44:15
I recently bought what was told a Case 430 Utility Tractor (diesel) that has a Model 31 Loader and Model 31 backhoe. The only ID labels are on the engine block (Ser no. 2003288) and on the Loader (Ser no. 4069075) and backhoe. All the labels are authentic JI Case Racine, WI manufacturing. My fuel filter is located directly underneath the diesel tank (contrary to what my Case shop manual states for the 430) and the diesel injection pump is model no. DBG-FCC431-29AJ (contrary to the manual's ID of the 430, 530, or 630). It also has four glow plugs, one at each air inlet plenum. Can you please provide any advice on what I have and what/where to look/measure to verify this? It was suggested to contact Elmer, as it may be a David Brown model. I can email you photos of the tractor and engine areas. Thank you very much, David
