Another weight question

I just was looking through a spec book for Case tractors, and it said the weight for a DC is 7,000 lbs. Is that right? Earlier I had asked for the weight on an SC and the reply was about 4200 lbs. It doesn't look like there is that much iron in the old girl. Don't think I'm an idiot, but I bleed green and this is a new experience for me.

My case LA says in the manual that it weighs in at 6599 but at the tractor pulls it weighs in at just under 9000 with a 300 lb driver (not me) You need to remember that the weights in the books are stripped models with no water in the tires or fuel in the tank. Sometimes it may even mean dry weight that no oil or gear oil or water in the system. The LA holds 15 gallons of cooling water 15 gallons of gear oil and 4 gallons of engine oil pluss 31 gallons of fuel that can add alot to the weight of a tractor. Case tractor as the guy said are made from cast steal and lots of it. Walt

Darrell, when the University of Nebraska tested this tractor, they said the weight was 4750#. When they tested it for pull, Case added ballast (water in Tires and weights) which brought the test weight up to 7010#. So what does a tractor weigh. It all depends!

Don't let looks fool you, those old DC's & SC's are made out of good HEAVY cast. My Brother-in-law has had a DC under a farmhand loader for years & abused the %#!! out of it for all that time, never a problem with the block showing any signs of stress. I think the engineer who designed that block & rear end system must have been getting a kick-back from the foundary, or the foundary was owned by his father-in-law & he wanted to send some business that way. The castings are very thick, I'd guess that a DC's oil pan weighs at least 150#. It takes two good men to hold it (and a boy to work the bolts) when you take one off or put it back on. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
