I have a 500 diesel that the last owner sold after changing fuel filters and couldn't get it started. It sat for several years first though. I have bled the three filters by the book and have fuel to the pump. With the injector lines cracked I get no fuel out of them. The shutoff cable linkage under the cover wast stuck in the off position, but I have it in the run posistion now. I still don't get any fuel. While I had the shutoff cover off I could see the gear below the pump head, and it was turning with the motor. What now? Thanks for any help and or ideas. Jake

JAKE,I HAD A PSB PUMP THAT SAT FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS,WHEN I TURNED THE MOTOR OVER I BROKE THE QUIL SHAFT IN THE PUMP,ITS A SHAFT THAT RUNS VERTICALIN THE BACK OF THE PUMP. THE SHAFT BROKE NEAR THE BOTTOM, BY THE GEAR,SO THE GEAR TURNED BUT THE HEAD DID NOT. THERE IS A COVER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PUMP ABOUT THE SIZE OF A NICKEL HELD ON WITH TWO SCREWS. I TOOK THE PUMP OFF,TOO HARD TO GETAT ON THE MOTOR. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND.GOOD LUCK

Re: It's the shut off in the pump.. in reply to JakeF, 05-01-2005 21:36:36
You'll need to remove the shut-off cover on the side of the pump. Inside you'll see how the shut-off works. The shut-off cable pulls against a lever inside but does NOT push it back when the shut-off cable is pushed back in. It relies on a small spring to return the pump to a run position. When these pumps set for a period of time, the little spring cannot overcome gummy oil and the shut-off lever sticks in the shut-off position. A little WD-40 and moving it back/forth will free it up. Good luck.

You need to look at the pump head. The plunger is either stuck or broken off. If these tractors sit for a long period of time the plunger will stick in the high presure pump. Try to start it like this and the plunger point rings off. You may need a pump head, or a rebuilt pump. Don Livingston 1507 433 0073 mornings should have the pump.

How do I check if it's the plunger? Do I just pull all the lines and remove the large nut in the center of the head or do I need to remove the four bolts holding the head on? Thanks again. Jake

I need to go out and look at my 600, but i think all you need to do is pull the 4 bolts.
