Best place to get oil pump for 148 gas?

I think the no oil pressure problem I have with my 430ck is the oil pump. I took it apart and found a couple of pieces missing out of the gasket. I'm guessing that replacing the gasket would fix it but if I got a rebuilt pump, I would know for sure. I've looked at a number of CASE tractor part sites but haven't found anyone with a pump for a 148 gas engine. Any ideas out there?

I lost oil presure in my VAC, and took the pump apart to find the drive gear in the pump cracked in half. Check to make sure that the shaft key is not sheared, as with the pin that holds the drive gear to the shaft outside the pump. I don't know of anybody that offers a rebuilt pump, but you can rebuilt it yourself in about 30 min with parts you can still get from CASE. I do know that some of those pumps used a .011" lead gasket and you CANNOT replace them with paper as you will pinch the gears once the expand from heat.

Parts are on the way. The guy at CASE told me there should have been an o-ring between the side of the pump and the block which was missing. I guess that wasn't helping either. Wish me luck, if I still don't have oil pressure after this, I may set fire to the old girl. Just kidding of course.

Bill, I was just wondering if you have the 148B engine. What casting # on the pump body?

The 148 engine oil pump has casting # VT142 on the body just above the pickup pipe. There is no o-ring on the 148 pump.

Number on the casting is G2039. On closer inspection I found there is still an o ring on the side of the pump but it was/is so hard and flat that it blended in with the casting. The CASE guy uses a book for a 430ck forklift and so far all the parts have been right. I'm going to try the new gasket and o ring and bench test it before I put it back in the tractor. If it looks at all like it isn't right then I'm ordering one from the guy in MN that emailed me with one for sale.

Bingo, just as I log in there you are. Well I guess you have the 148B engine as opposed to the 148. I think the change over year was 1960 but not sure.

They are both 148 cid and many of the upper & external engine parts are interchangeable. The lower end is quite a bit different. Larger crank journals, both rod & mains. Just about anything associated with the crank is likely different.

Good luck.

Joe

I've got oil pressure! I replaced the gasket and found that the relief piston was also stuck in it's bore. With those two things corrected it is pumping fine now. The old gauge reads 15 at idle and I have a feeling that a new gauge will read higher. Thanks for the help.

Success!!! Manual spec for 148 cid is 14-20 psi @ 1750 rpm with engine at operating temp. I don't have 148B engine spec but bet it would be the same. Time to put her to work.

Gears, shaft key and pin are all fine. I know the gasket thickness is critical in a pump like that. I was thinking maybe sheet copper would work if I have to make one. Hopefully, if there is a kit it will have the gasket in it.
