I was daydreaming today and got to looking at a couple of cases. On the big 400s, 800s, and a few others there is the crank hole still open. Has anyone ever saw a crank for these tractors? Has anyone ever cranked one by hand to start. What about the diesels? The holes are still in them. How much does it take to hand crank a diesel.

As I understand the crank for the diesel was for doing repair work on the tractor that required turning the engine only. I cannot imagine what kind of hulk it would take to spin the engine fast enough to develop compression enough to get the diesel to fire! DK

Hay DK you canot even install a crank in a 400 series tractor with power steering . The power assist unit is between the hole and the crank pulley but the pulley still hase the fitting for a crank. Wayne J.
