Could someone please give me the part number for the steering joints of a 580CK (1960's vintage)? And, or is there an aftermarket type that fits?

There are two for the Tie Rod and four for the Steering Cylinders.

I tried removing one with a press and it disintegrated the threaded end. Had to hacksaw off the end and use a pickle fork. Should have used the pickle fork from the get-go.

Thanks,

Mark

They sell them on this website. That's where I got my last set of six. I'll give you a good deal though on the two new tie-rod ends - I couldn't use mine. My tie-rod tube was bent like a pretzel and one old tie-rod end was welded on - so I wound up putting a tie rod in from a Ford F150 pickup truck. I had to shorten it a little, but the tie rod ends have the same size tapered pin, so it worked great. The 580Cks came with a standard tie-rod that is 1" o.d., and a heavy-duty tie rod that is 1 1/8" o.d. Either way, they take the same tie-rod ends.

Mark, Never use a pickle fork, they always damage the
rubber seal . Use a large sledge hammer as a back
up and a 2 to 3 pound hammer to hit the eye where
the tapered end is located. A few good licks and
the tie rod end will jump out and no damage will
be done to any of the parts.

I've been in the equipment repair for more than
30 years and have never owned a pickle fork. most of the ends that we take apart have to go back
together again , therefore we cannot destroy them.
