Marvel Schebler on VAC acts like sponge!

I need help with my Marvel Schebler TSX 114 on my VAC Case. I took the carb apart, filled the bottom half with gas to about a half inch of the top. Within seconds the top surface of bowl is soaked in gas, and within a minute the outside surface of the carb is wet. Even the inside of the elbow as it bends up into the venuri area gets gas sitting in it. There are no visible cracks or holes, at least none I can see through my bifocals! A mechanic at a salvage yard said I had sand holes in the cast iron bowl, and that it was irrepairable. Anyone ever heard of this? Is there a fix? If there is no fix, where is a good place to get a good rebuilt one?

Sounds to me like you have a porrus casting. I have sometimes used gastank sealer to fix this kind of problem in other carburetors. If it is in a place that is visable, I have coated the sealer inside the bowl taking care not to get it in the jets. It plug the holes and is quite permament if you let it dry well before running fuel though it. If you don't let it dry well you will have a mess! If it is porrus in the jets also then you have a bigger problem and will have to get another carb as it will affect the fuel flow and will never run right.

Thanks David, it sounds like it's worth a try. I've never used gas tank sealant, although I've heard of it. If the stuff is too thick the float might hang up on it, otherwise it should work. I forgot to mention that the tractor has had a history of running rough and flooding. I've tried new spark plugs, wires, points, etc. When I drive the tractor into my shop, my carbon monoxide detector goes off in seconds. I can run my car or pickup into the garage and let them run 2-3 minutes, and the detector hardly goes up at all, so I know I'm getting crappy combustion with my VAC. Thanks again.
