My "LA" has not been running in 5 years, wondering what procedure I should do before startup.
My thoughts are to rinse out the gas tank, but with what, just more gas?Should I worry about the valves stuck? Going to change oil and filter.

I would put some light oil in the cylinders and let that stand over night to soak in to the rings. Then get new plugs replace any bad plug wires make sure that you get the copper core (you can get them at NAPA). Check mag for spark clean points and any corrosion. Now turn the engine over by hand with the crank and the plugs out. Once it turns over freely then replace plugs and hope for the sound of the engine starting. Run at low speed ubtil the oil clear out and the engine runs without smoking. You should be Ok afte that to run normally.

Thanks for the good info, couple question"s back at you, when you talked of light oil, would spraying some WD40 in each cylinder qualify for light oil or something a bit heavier? How about that old gasoline, there isnt much in there and it does not look good, would you just rinse with new gas?

Buy a quart can of Gumout at NAPA and rinse the tank with that after a fresh gas rinse. The Gumout will clean out any varnishe build up.
