Tractor will run when cold but when it gets warm and I shut it off it will not want to start again. What could be the problem. Sometimes she will give some pops of encuragement but, she won't go. The tractor has a mag ignition system with Champion J8C plugs. I assume it's something to do with ignition because I can squirted some gas in the cylinders and that won't have an affect.

Any Ideas? Thanks in advance, DRD

Thermostat checked out OK open between 160 and 170 degrees. I set the tappets at .010.

I did get tractor started today. I closed plug gap to .020. Also I advanced the timing slightly.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future. DRD

I just throwing out stuff. Sure you didn't get the valves too tight? Did you rebuild the engine? Is it turning over pretty fast? I know you said you put gas into the cylinders, but is the gas tank cap venting?

Autolite 295's will fit the Case SC instead of te Chanmpins. Try Replacemt of the plugs.

try different plugs. Dad had same problem many years ago with a combine. He never used champion again.

Check if mag is throwing hot blue spark . If only ayellow or no spark coil is breaking down when hot.

I have tried two different mags on the tractor. Both will jump a 1/4 inch gap on the test stand. Both mags have the same result on the tractor. I Tried both mags on another Case SC and that tractor will start fine with both mags.

Could I have a thermostat Problem? Seemed like tractor run very warm but temp gauge read about 140 degrees. The past three days I have been able to start the tractor in the morning. If I let it sit for about 5 minutes at idle it will reach 140 to 150 degrees. before I shut her off to see if I can Get Her restarted (Usually no luck). Is this to hot for a tractor running at idle? I ask this because both of my other SC's won't even reach 100 degrees in this time frame.

Thanks Again, DRD

She should run at 180 degrees when fully warmed up. You could have a bad temperature gauge and the tractor could be warmer than 140. Does it look like the water pump is giving good circulation when you remove the radiator cap with it running? The coolant should be swirling around fast. Is the radiator hot to the touch?
