How much trouble would it be to add power steering to a 1030 without it or not feasible? I'm not that familar with this one. Thanks.

I haven't seen the tractor yet. The guy just said it was a hard steering thing like it didn't have power. Maybe it is there and just bad? Just thought I might want a 1030 after reading article about them at Tractor Shop magazine. Have had small Cases before but not a bigger one, I know the green ones better. lol. I read someplace to try to find one later with the trans oil cooler too. Is that easy to add? Might want to do some shredding with it if I get it.

Hey Glenn: I thought they all had a cooler, shows how much I know!!! I wouldn't worry about it unless you are going to run a continuous Orbit Motor. The trouble with the P/S is that people try to spin the steering wheel while sitting in soft dirt. Imagine the stress on the steering system & spindles. Make sure the belt is tight & not sunk in the pulleys, new filter & full of oil. I add a little 85W140 to the oil to add a little body in the older P/S systems. Then try the P/S while moving, even if ever so slowly.

Thanks John. I did some more searching on archives here and other places and read someplace about 1966 models not having a cooler but all later ones did? I suppose these may have a check valve and need a good flushing like the green ones usually do. lol. I remember the 430 we had with front loader just usually needed filter and belts to get steering ok again. I'll have to get a I&T manual if I buy it. I'm reading more good than bad about the 1030 on here. :)
