The model year is 1953. VA series manuals are sold on this site, look to the left.

Your tractor was manufactured in 1952, shipped in 1953. www.jicaseworld.com/yearident.html

Joe

If a VAC with a serial number that starts in 60 is a 1953 what year is a VAC that starts in 58?

I don't know Jerry, I saw that too. Asked the seller and he said it was indeed 58. I also ask in the same question if the tag was Rock Island, he did not respond to that part. I have not seen or heard of a 58 or 59 other than that one. I would think that with the number of the VA series tractors produced in 54 & 55, one would have shown up here in the last 6 or 7 years.

As far as I can tell the nrs changed for all VA series from 57 to 60 during the 53 model year, starting 54 with 6011001, & 55 with 6038001.

I just looked at the tractor registry on the left. There are 287 VA series registered. One VA listed as 58, no 59. A number of 60's that have 1956 as the model year and you know that didn't happen.

Personally I don't think the 58 happened either.

Well Jerry, coming from you I will accept that as fact. My information and conclusions are wrong.

Joe

The odd thing is that it could pass for a twin to the one in the eBay auction.

The only digit that could possibly be mistook for an 8 would be a 3 and that would translate into an early model which these tractors definitely are not. I don't get it.

Another thing that I find a little weird is that every 1953 and newer VAC I've seen has the - 11,12,13,14 model designation stamped into the serial number after the VAC only in smaller script. Only the late 1951's and 1952's say just VAC. Is this what you have noticed? So if these tractors are newer than 53 why do they not have that stamping.

By the way I went and bid on a real nice 44 VAC yesterday at an auction. I bid it to $575 and it sold for $600 (a Super C Farmall sitting right beside brought $4100). I quit for 2 reasons - I suspected I was bidding against the auctioneers' stoolie and it also had a noise in the tranny when it was backing up. Just what I would have needed is another tractor needing work before I could sell it. It had the skinnest tires I have ever seen on a VAC - 8.00 x 32 - and they were old time tires and rims.

Jerry, I think you are way ahead of me on the '50's VAC, I am more into the 300's. I have a 52-53 with no serial nr plate. It is a 13 with the 14 shifter, clutch rod pivot flange, pto rpm throttle stop, and a few other 14 only cast items that would not have normally been changed due to wear or breakage. I kinda settled on 53 due to the increasing popularity of the low profile tractors and possible cross-part building. Somewhere along the line I ruled out 54 & 55, probably engine serial nr but don't remember exactly why, too long ago.

As for the 2nd digit 8, I thought more toward confusion with a 6. That would make the visible parts, sheet metal, steering, grill, etc the same up through 55.

Anyway I have changed computers and currently can find only 2 sites that concur with the above 1953 serial nr change from 57 to 60. Neither of them have real accurate info.

I don't know of any after market VAC serial nr tags. If that VAC14 with 58 has a valid Rock Island tag, that is good enough for me, you are not going to miss a clone.

I don't go to auctions anymore except Ritchie Bros down by Olympia. The small auctions around here are mostly junk or less than honest. Just my opinion.

Joe

Not sure about the year but sounds like a late model. Wet Sleeve. 124 cid from the factory 3 1/4" bore. 3 7/16 kits available. It manuals are easy to come by. Don Livingston is a good source of parts. His address is manifold@smig.net or call am at 507-433-0073.
