We have a Case 970 diesel that just died the other night and we haven't been able to get it started since. It just turns over, but doesn't fire. The temperature here is about 30 degrees, but I don't think the fuel has gelled. I don't know much about diesels, other than they need fuel and air. What things should I check?
Thanks - Corky

Got it started. Had to pull the primer pump out and pumped it. Started after we put it back together. Thanks to all responders.

Is there smoke coming out the exhaust while cranking? If not, you're not getting fuel.

No, no smoke. Do you think the fuel line could be frozen?

If yours has a glass bowl on the side of the main fuel pump, check to see if the fuel looks clear, theres also a screen in the bowl,if it would have jelled sometimes its the screen, theremay or may not be a fine filter screen where the fuel line comes out of the tank,it could be plugged.Easy way to see if the fuel is flowing from the tank would be to remove the glass bowl from the side of the pump, fuel will run out quickly usually,if you have fuel there, probably would change and bleed the filters,if theres no pump problems it should start.Sorry for the long post.

You need to do this systematically. Check for fuel flow out of tank to transfer pump, from there through fuel filters, then to injection pump. Most likely fuel filters plugged, but check things the whole way through. Use the owners manual to guide you. If she gets fuel and air and nothing is truly broken, it will start.
