I have fought and fought that steering on my 66 930 and I have come to the conclusion that the gear is just worn out. It turns fairly easily to the left but not so easy to the right and it has alot of slack in the gear I learned that the steering gears get hard to turn on the N series fords when they get wore out maybe that is what is wrong with my 930 I put another pump on it and the belt is tight new filter and type A trans fluid I have bled and bled it and greased the spindles well. I think the steering gear is badly worn and and I need another one. I know it has alot of slack in it and it turns hard to the right.

It could be the bearings. In spring 04 my got really hard to steer. One day I got pissed off at it and yanked the wheel hard after that I had about 1.5 turns of the wheel before the tires started to move. We tore the steering box down replaced bearings and now it drives like a new one.

Thanks for the followup. I have heard it could be the bearings I didnt realize that they could cause all the slack though I dont doubt it. Maybe I should tear into it soon.
