Bob exepct to pay dear for that pto cover I just sold one for 125.00 and a set of front weights for 300.00. You got a nice tractor but in the long run it's going to cost you out the wazoo to modify modern equipment so you can use it with this 400 that's the reason FIL sold his. And with 3pt pto operated equip it's a pain to use with the 3rd link covering up pto .

Good looking 400. I have a question for you. I am not familiar with the case wide fronts but, along side the right hand side of the block it looks like there is a shaft running along side the block. What the heck is this rod? It looks like it has a u-joint on the end close to the bellhousing, does it go to the wide front?

Not to be nosey or anything do you care tell us what you had to give for the old girl? There was a 400 diesel on e-bay the other day and the last bid that I say was around 1300 and the reserve was met. I thought that was a real steal. Thanks Jaker

There is a shaft like that on both sides a turn buckle affair ,I believe to strengthen the tractor and take stress of the engine??

I paid 2000.00 for it and except for a few dings and spots is in pretty good shape everything works even the lights.it was only a few miles from my farm so I saved some not having to haul it.

The pto cover is there and the hydraulics are off to the right side so I think the a regular top link should work but i'll keep looking for the right one thanks !

Be careful about using a generic top link on these tractors. To work right the top link has to be fastened to the tractor on the bracket covering the PTO shaft. You then need to use the Case top link which is offset to avoid contact with the hydrualic valve housing.

Hi Pat: There is a top link from a Case 611B on ebay. I do not know if it would work on this tractor. The ebay item number is 3880805903. Joe

That toplink will not work, it is for the smaller series tractors, 300, 411B 530, etc. The previous top link mentioned is what he needs
