Here's the story. I'm Overhauling a uncles SC. Found out that block had 4 cracks. Had it brazed and cracked again by #1 piston from top to bottom through Sleeve Seal. (NOT good). Anyway I got another block and put both the crank, bearings and bearing caps from cracked block into new block. After tightening caps I can't turn the crank. The strange thing is if I check the Bearing clearence with Plasti-gauge it will not crush it to give me a measurement. What is going on? Yes I have cleaned bearing surface top bottom and sides, and yes crank did turn free in cracked block.

Thanks for any ideas, DRD

You can't switch main bearing caps from one block to another. Also make sure you turn them the same way they came off. The main bearing journals are bored after the block is cast. The line boring machine doesn't get set the same for each block.

Use the original bearing caps from the replacement block. Your line bore is off.
